Evaluation of the National Award for SEN Co-ordination

Real Training has delivered an evaluation of its National Award for SEN Co-ordination to the National College of Teaching and Leadership. The National Award is a mandatory training course for all teachers who take on the Special Needs co-ordination role in school. Real Training is one of the Government approved providers of this Masters level course.

The evaluation we undertook included gathering evidence of delegate learning, behaviour change in delegates’ schools, behaviour change in delegates’ schools and delegates’ achievement as a result of the course.

Since the course began over 500 delegates have registered on the course.

When we asked delegates about the extent to which the course met the delegates’ needs and development priorities as SENCO 82% rated the course at good or very good and 14% rated the course at satisfactory.

One of our delegates said, ‘I have attended many training courses that have left me wondering whether or not my time could have been better spent. The National Award for SEN Coordination has been a revelation! I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the role of SENCO, both where it has come from and the direction in which it is now heading. At the end of each of the Real Training units I have felt empowered…. not only have my knowledge and skills as Special Educational Needs Coordinator improved but I also know where to look to find answers for the many questions that I still have. I have also been able to structure my own development goals to ensure that my professional development continues.’
